Abstract | Blockchain technology can be considered an effective emerging digital transformation theory that can be implemented in various sectors to address challenges. This study examines the applications, methodologies, results, limitations, and recommendations of recent research on integrating blockchain technology in cyber security. The study starts by exploring the evolution and challenges faced by online social networks. The main issues in social networks are accuracy and security. Blockchain technology provides enhanced privacy and security; thus, integration of blockchain technology with such networks would help to conquer these issues. This study relies on several approaches, such as comprehensive analysis, systematic reviews, and qualitative assessments, to explore the efficacy of blockchain technology in the field of cybersecurity. Such approaches have supported the several researchers in examining the different types of private information shared on social media and developing data protection schemes using blockchain features. By illustrating the effectiveness of blockchain in enhancing cybersecurity through recent studies, this study highlights the efficiency of blockchain in cybersecurity. This study shows that integrating blockchain with Internet of Things (IoT) devices can also significantly improve safety and privacy in online platforms. Depending on blockchain features like integrity, data authenticity, and regulated sharing, scholars have been able to use social platforms for online communication. In addition to that, the advancement of blockchain technology still has challenges. The most typical difficulties that researchers and technical experts have found in the implementation of blockchain technology are complexity and scalability issues. Therefore, there exists a gap for further research to overcome these limitations, so this research attempts to explore the challenges in this implementation. In addition to it, integration of blockchain among government agencies, education, manufacturing industries are crucial in the perspective of cybersecurity. As a result, the integration of blockchain technology into cybersecurity has the potential to revolutionize online security. Through transparent, secure and decentralized solutions blockchain technology can provide a promising avenue for enhancing cybersecurity in various industries. This study not only identifies the challenge but also provides an opportunity for the future researchers to address the challenges and explore the full potential of blockchain in cybersecurity. Numerous benefits can be observed when the blockchain technology is integrated into the cybersecurity field like enhanced security, improved privacy, transparency, automation, cost-effectiveness, secure supply chains, and regulatory compliance. Blockchain technology can also provide decentralized, tamper-resistant platforms for data storage and transmission, ensuring data integrity and reducing the risk of cyber threats.
